Smile Alltel and LG Phone Question

Hello,

I have Alltel, and the LG AX8600 phone that is not a year old. I have had problems with this phone beginning with dropped calls and then a mediocre battery life. Basically, because it has a "pink" dot behind the battery the Alltel store said that it has been exposed to water and that even though the phone has a DOA/return policy, because mine has this exposure it doesn't qualify for a new phone. LG has told me the same thing, so basically I have a phone that works (drops signal intermittantly and I have to charge it every 2 days or so). Question, are the chips in the phone transferable to other phones? i.e., can I purchase a new phone from a vendor designed/programmed to work on the Alltel network and just switch my phone chip from my current phone to the new one? Are they unique to the manufacturer of the phone? Could I pull my chip out of this LG phone and put it into a Motorola phone that works on Alltel's network? I'm cell phone ignorant. Also, the only thought I have on how my phone is exposed to moisture is that I carry it in my front pocket and I live in hot/humid Florida. It has NEVER been dropped in water as the Alltel rep asked. Thanks!

Cell phone ignorant? Its ok ALOT of people are. Unfortunately CDMA technology does not require the use of a SIM card so you cannot just 'switch' your phone chip, BUT you can easyly purchase a phone that works on Alltel's network. The phone would work after a simple ESN change which any agent or customer service rep can do within a few seconds. Your going to loss your contacts though so here is a tip thats going to save you a couple of bucks.First, go out an purchase another LG. When you are ready to get your ESN changed to the new phone, go into your Axcess Apps and download the free demo for Mighty Back-up. What this download does it copy all your contacts onto the internet. Go get your ESN switched over to the new phone and re-download the same application. Its going to ask you to buy it just relax its going to be a one time only charge of 2 dollars onto your bill JUST MAKE SURE TO UN-INSTALL IT after your done. Follow all the steps and have fun because you have your contacts now.Welcome to Flordia. I live here too ( more in the North-east) and it happens all the time and its unfortunate but there is not a policy within our company that notes Flordia's tendency for setting off the moisture dot.
