NO, CDMA and GSM are two completely different technologies. Go on Ebay you can easily find any GSM phone and get it to work on T-mobile with their SIM card. Make sure it's "newer". Older AT&T phones (pre-Cingular) will need an unlock code which AT&T refuses to release, Cingular phones and newer AT&T phones should work fine.
I have an old VoiceStream (Pre T-Mobile) Nokia phone that reads the carrier's name when you plug the SIM in.
