CDMA phone on t-mobile

I just so happened to come across a Motorola Q9C from Sprint and I'm wondering whether or not it'll work with my t-mobile account. forgive me as i'm ignorant to the different network capabilities and their applicable phones...

NO, CDMA and GSM are two completely different technologies. Go on Ebay you can easily find any GSM phone and get it to work on T-mobile with their SIM card. Make sure it's "newer". Older AT&T phones (pre-Cingular) will need an unlock code which AT&T refuses to release, Cingular phones and newer AT&T phones should work fine.

I have an old VoiceStream (Pre T-Mobile) Nokia phone that reads the carrier's name when you plug the SIM in.

Sprint is CDMA, AT&T is GSM (SIM Card). Since AT&T uses SIM cards and the SPrint phone doesn't take SIM cards, it will NOT work. You may want to look for an unlocked phone somewhere on eBay or google.
