step 1)
First, in iTunes you need to go to Prefs (under "edit" next to "file" up at the top left corner), then Import, then change your import settings to mp3 (I used 112kbps, quality is less important than compactness for my ringtones). Then, find the song you want, and go through the song to figure out which part you want to be the ringtone (IE: 00:30.00 to 00:42.00) and then Ctrl-I to get info on the song. Under the Options tab in the Get Info menu, check both start and stop time and enter the start and stop times for the ringtone section (IE: Start time 00:30.00 End Time 00:42.00). You may want to play it once to make sure it's well cropped. Then, just select the song in your library and go to Advanced -> Convert Selection to MP3. It will automatically convert ONLY the portion of the song that you selected to a new, cropped MP3 file, which can then be dragged onto the desktop and used. This is infinitely easier than trying to crop and convert in another application, and now you can have the coolest ringtone on the block in half the time!

*just a note, i believe if the song is too long it wont work correctly. so you wanna keep the ringtone less than about 30 seconds or so just to be safe.

Step 2)
go to download.com and download and instal "Extension Changer 0.5 build 186"

Step 3)
run extension changer and drag the file you just created in step one onto the extension changer window and change the file to "3g2"

Step 4)
Connect your phone to your computer and drag the file to your phone (i believe you need an SD card for this)

step 5)
under the settings>sounds option on your phone, set the ringtones (either caller id or not) to the new file (you may have to look around for it if you dont know where you saved it)

This also works for setting ringtones for individual people using almost the same method (except you have to go through then persons contact in your phonebook) but will not work for text message ringtones.

hope this helps

sending via bluetooth

(not free) There may be other alternatives to IMToo, use google.

Then I use the sprint focus (http://www.sprintusers.com/focus/) to send the song to my phone by txt. I haven't had any problems with the way this works. I use wav from audacity so the sound isn't garbled up. The ringers sound perfect on my phone. I hope this helps, because I was about to take the phone back because the ringers that come with it are wack.
I can send an MP4 via bluetooth from my Mac, but my Rant won't let me play it. So I have two questions. In your process above, what folder do you put it in so that you can use the file as a ringtone? And should I use something other than my Mac to convert the file to an MP4?

Thx - Kat

Step
1) Go to http://www.iwfr.net/mp3toringtone/index.php
2) Follow instructions as necessary to successfully convert your mp3 to a ringtone
3) After downloading the shortened version of your mp3 file to your PC/Mac(which is what I used), go to http://www.sprintusers.com/focus/
4) Follow the steps to upload a file and have it texted to your Rant.
5) It automatically saves it to your "My Stuff" file so that you may assign to ANY contact or set as your default ringtone!
It works like a charm. I've tested using my data plan, and it works great... didn't try dowloading it from the computer or SD card though.

I was talkin for about a half hour- 45 minutes and my battery got low but i had charged it earlier. Well when i plugged in my charger to my phone, it completely turned off and ended the call. I dont quite know why the battery drains so fast!

I personally read a few reviews on the Rant phone and they all said that the Rant had a poor battery life! You should try to set your lowering the time the back light is on and ensure that your power save "on" as well!

Batteries

YOu are only supposed to charge your battery when it is extremely low, and most phones need 3 hours charge time or less, anything more than that, like leaving it plugged in all night, is what fries your battery and why you have no talk time

Grr!

Can anyone suggest a way to get ringtones on my rant without having internet browser?

I have tried hooking the phone up to the computer and using the SD Card to transfer files, but i cant do anything with them. I got the file converter and converted the .mp3s to .3g2s and put them in the DCIM > 100 SS MED file and setting the ringtone to a contact that way and it says it works but i tested it and it doesnt play anything at all, just silence when i called it from the test number. I have tried numerous times to update the PRL and Firmware but nothing happens, do I have to have internet for this to happen?

A little advice

All you have to do is make sure the filename looks like this:

SSPX****.3g2

The stars stand for whatever numbers you want them to be. This will trick the phone into thinking it's actually one of it's own video ringers. Hope I helped!
