The info is a strait copy from Engadget mobile

After a pleasingly brief public beta, Nokia's glazing its Maps 2.0 navigation app with a thick coating of gold and sending it off into a waiting world of S60-toting fiends to fend for itself. The new version underpins the GPS receivers in Nokia's 2008 smartphones but is also available as a free download for a variety of existing devices, offering key improvements that make it a totally viable nav system -- satellite view, traffic data, and a significantly retooled UI, most importantly, plus the addition of a dedicated pedestrian mode for those times when geographical confusion strikes while on foot. Optional packs add goodies like city guides and the all-important voice guided car navigation and ultimately make Maps 2.0 a non-free venture, but really, no full-featured nav system is -- and the initial download does quite a bit out of the box. Hit the read link to kick off the download.

Is there any video of it in action ? I like the current version a lot, and can't find anything that needs improvement.

I'm using the original version of nokia maps. Can someone tell me if it is possible to load the maps on my phone card prior to needing them. Because i don't like the idea of using expensive 3G data on the road just to be able to use the FREE navigation.

if not there is always an alternative to Nokia maps :D. The garmin mobile xt for example, or route 66 and even TomTom. These are all well know names in the mobile navigation industry so their maps are really good and most of the times accurate. I won't post a link to them so it doesn't look like advertising or sth, but it is easy to find them in google :)

This is so true :) Garmin Mobile XT is better than nokia Maps, but then again it isn't free. If buy it though you get the whole package of features, like voice nav, routing and so on. With Nokia maps on the other hand the soft is free unless you want voice nav, maps are also free unlike garmins, but are not as good.
