View Full Version : Cricket smartphone on the horizon?

I heard rumors that Cricket was talking to Motorola about a special version of the Q for their network?

Cricket seems very appealing to me because I don't often roam (I actually text more than I make calls)

However the only deal-killer for me is the phone selection. I can't stand the Razr, and I've heard more horror stories than I care to relate from friends with Kyocera phones.

I have a smartphone on Verizon and I'm paying like 80.00 a month for what Cricket seems to offer for less than half that. If Cricket just got some smartphones, I'd eat my 175.00 early termination fee and switch tomorrow.

You could get the smartphone you have now flashed to cricket. A lot of the Verizon phones can flash to Cricket as long as they don't have a SIM you have to use. And some cell phone places will flash it for as low as $20 (at least it's that low here in Nashville). Or you could do what the other reply said and buy a smartphone that's already flashed.

As for roaming, Cricket now offers a Flexbucket feature where you purchase a certain amount of roaming minutes. Yes, you can roam with Cricket now. I'm a Cricket customer and have been for 5 years now. I flipped when I found out they roam now. I travel out of town quite a bit. I forget how many minutes you get for $5 a month. But trust me, it's definitely worth it.

Does anyone happen to know if the Sprint Fusic can be flashed to work with the Cricket service...when I look in the back of my phone i do not see any SIM card so I assume its just a flashable phone.Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Palm Treo flashed to Cricket. The only negative when flashing phones is that not everything will work perfectly. I can't get or send pic messages now that it's flashed. Also I can't take advantage of Cricket servises, such as the flex bucket, ringtones, the backup system they have now. I am waiting for them to come up with their own smartphone.

They did, they had the Palm Treo they were selling. One issue. because they will never have thier own smart phone and Motorola pulled the plug on them for awhile because of thier high churn rate they are locking down thier phones. So any phone from any other carrier will work just the same. No Web and no picturemail. also no roaming calltones, ringtones or flex-bucket.

I have a Motorola Q that's getting flashed for Cricket service.

The things I need to know is......

When getting a full flash, will I get FULL INTERNET ACCESS and features or will I receive some watered down version ?

Also, is my Q capable of getting a Mobile 6 upgrade ?

Who and where can I get this upgrade ?

Just so you guys know; you can flash any smartphone to cricket and make the internet and picture mail and stuff work. All you have to do is activate it by phone and make them give you the service. They normally turn it off and most people dont know that. My dad has a Motorolla smartphone and he has all the features working fine.
