I bought the LG AX8600 phone from Alltel about a month ago. Two of them actually. I have an SD micro (1.0 GB) and card reader. Here's are my questions: Where can I get legal mp3s? I've joined every legal site I can think of (using free trials) and I can't figure it out. When I try to move the files from the site to the card, it says my device is not compatible. Someone told me to download and save to comptuer first then move to card. I realized that Rhapsody has RAX format, not mp3's. What's up with the DRM? Apparently those files can't be converted to mp3s? My husband and I both bought these phones because of the mp3 feature and so far have been unable to use it. Alltel offers Jump Music using emusic ($50 kit), but emusic doesn't have mainstream music in its catalog. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for so many questions in one post. We're just really, really frustrated.

No need to worry! ;)
Look here - http://www.soft29.com/rax_converter.html
Also you can use a program like Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/beta_windows) to capture the line out and dump it into a "track". Audacity comes with lame, which is then used when you go to File->Export as mp3 to export the captured audio into mp3.
Another method is to use your Real software to burn a CD (make sure to create an audio cd, not a data cd with .rax files)
Once you've created the CD, you can use Audiograbber (or whatever ripper) to read the CD and create mp3 files from it.

Is it not possible to bluetooth mp3 files to my LG AX8600? Everytime I try it says my phone does not accept a file of that type.

You can bluetooth mp3's to your 8600 to play in the music player.. but you can't use them as your ringtones.. for the ringtones they have to be a .qcp file... dont' ask me why or what it is.. all I know is I have an 8600.. and I use a program called sound forge to cut out the clips I want... save the clip then change the ending .mp3 to .qcp save it ... transfer it to your phone and it work ^^ Hope this helps!
Also.. I have a micro sd card... I got it to put ringtones on but you can't do that either the ringtones have to be on the phone memory or they won't work.. if you are using a bluetooth transfer the files go in the Phone_Recorded_Audio folder

I have this phone and this is the way I do it.... First, I download songs with limewire. Then I decide which songs I want on my phone. Hopefully the card reader you have is also a writer. Pop your sd card in the writer, hook it up in your usb port, and it's as easy as dragging and dropping your audio files from you computer onto the card writer. Your files will go into your music folder on your card. You should be able to send files to your phone via bluetooth also. I have a mac, so it may be a little different if you're running windows...I don't know. I pair my devices and then choose to browse my device from there I can choose songs to send to the music folder. I typically don't do this because it takes about 4 minutes per song. If you have any more questions, let me know...I can also let you know how to make your mp3s ringtones. Hope this helps!

I use that exact teqnique (limewire/click and drag) but everytime i try and listen to them off my phone it says "no songs found in memory card". I read on another message board that i could buy a cable, but is there another way? i really don't want to spend any more money than i already have on this phone.

I'm not quite sure why that would happen, but I had a friend that was having the same problem. I don't know if it fixed itself, or if I did while I was playing around with it. Has your card been formatted so it has folders to put the different media in? I had to put my blank sd card into my phone before I could put anything on it so it could create the folders. The only thing I can say is just to make sure your music files are going into your music folder.

Make sure you put the memory card in and tell the phone to format it first, it will add a bunch of new folders. open the card, then drag and drop the mp3's into the music folder. then just pop it in and it will recognize them.
The one thing i cant figure out is how to move mp3's from the card, to phone memory, so it will accept them as ringtones.

First, go to "menu". Then, go to "my media". Select "audio", then "downloaded". You should be able to see the songs that are able to be set as ringtones. Highlight the song you want to move and hit the "options" button. Scroll down and select "move". It will ask you if you want to move this file from the card to the phone. Select "yes" (you would do the same thing if you wanted to move the file from the phone to the card). Now that the file is on your phone, highlight it and select "options" again. Select "set as" and set it to whatever you want. Hope this helps!

If you have the alltel jump music set($50) you sometimes cant put all of your music onto your phone. So i would suggest just buying the usb cord if possible becuase then you can connect the cord to your phone and go to C: and open up the usb port (whatever you have named your phone) and then go to LG_MEDIA and then open up the music folder and you can just click and drag the music that you have saved onto your computer into that folder. Hint: if you hold ctrl you can select more than one song. also if you click on one song and then hold shift and click on a song below that it will highlight all of the songs inbetween and you can hold ctrl and shift and the same time while selecting songs....this helped me move songs a lot faster.
I hope this helped out

What I do is create my mp3 for my ringtone. Then what I do is incert my card into the card reader. I then open up the LG_media folder on the card and place the mp3s in the other_sounds folder. Then I can go into my media/audio/downloaded and there they are. You can then select options/move and it will ask you if you want to move it to the phone and just say yes and there you are. You can then set it as one of your default ringtones or go into a contact and choose it as a ring tone for a certain one.
I hope this helps.

I can not get this bluetooth to work on my ax8600. I've tried pics of all types and music files of most types. None are sent, I just get an error message on my computer that says "Sending of file failed." Or this error message on my phone "Receiving vCard" then "Transfer failed"...I am not sending a vcard either...
PLEASE I know someone has figured out how to get the bluetooth to work
Thanks,
bobby

Okay, so can you please help me make my mp3s into ringtones? I don't have a micro-SD card or a usb cord, and it is really saddening because I have had this phone for only a day :(

I used Audacity to trim a song I have on my computer. keeping it in .mp3 format, and transferring it to my micro SD card using the JumpMusic program from Alltel, I have no option to select any song (or trimmed ringtone) to "move" it. i go to options and i can only sort, delete, check information and... whatever else, i can't move any though.
HOW DO I MAKE MY OWN RINGTONES??? i paid for JumpMusic (memory card and a USB cable and the software), and i downloaded Audacity, what else do i need???
