Hm, very strange. I have T68i also and I am VS customer and I do not experience any problems.
Check your Sms settings... go to the Messages menu, then SMS, then Options..
this is what I have there:
1. Service Centers:
- should have +12063130004
2. Email gateways
- nothing
If you have those settings, you should be fine. Let me know if you still hafe a problem.

no luck :(
service center number is correct and email gateway was all zeros, i deleted that.
after i type an SMS message and hit yes, it asks me for an address, i think email address. it seems the only way to send an SMS message is to start a CHAT with someone, that allows me to enter a phone number, but i was having problems with that like people werent getting the message for a day or so.
thanks for your help :)

Hm, never heard of such a problem.
Try one more thing..
Go to Connect
then Data Comm.
then SMS access
the setting should be GSM (not GPRS)
let me know what happens

Is your SMS type set on text?

Try also this:
Go into SMS options under 'Message type' and select either SMS (or if you select EMAIL, make sure you set an email gateway to 500)

messages / sms / options
then i have
1 - service centers, 2 - email gateways, 3 - request reply, 4 - long sms.
is that what you have, and if so, what number do you have for email gateway??
if i write new (enter text) OK, it asks for email gateway (add new?) OK, It asks for a number (000 for the heck of it) OK, asking for address (XXX for the heck of it) OK, SENDING.is this the proceedure you follow?
i have a feeling this is because it is an att phone on a t-mobile network.
any thoughts?
