verizon vs. my vx8100

I may have overlooked it in this forum, anyway, I have a major issue with my phone. i bought the vx8100 at the verizon store and they put me on my brother-in-laws family plan. then i bought the media cable and headphones..oh yeh and 1 Gig mini Sd, and now that the divorce is final, verizon is basically telling me i have a $300.00 freakin paper-weight. i hear alot of unlocking (SIM-nlocking) or whatever. anyone know how i can wipe clean the slate and possibly go back to verizon to have it added to my fathers family plan? (yes this messed up the whole family, and they've all bought new phones) thanks

Sorry for the stupid question, but what do you mean by saying "i have a $300.00 freakin paper-weight"? Is this your month bill?
