I feel so good about this phone that I am going to say it will be my backup phone to my Pocket PC Convergence device for a long time.... It offers everything that is important to me with very few compromises on my part. I LOVE IT!!

Well, I have gone through 2 of these beauties this week

Reasons:

- No BT Headset Supported Voice Dialing (what was Motorola thinking?!)
- The "Camera" would scramble photos taken on the highest resolution
- The BT would lock up after dialing a number from my IPAQ5555
- Windows Mobile 2003. Windows has bugs and problems on a desktop so why should their Mobile OS be any different.

I am hoping the new V3 will have fully enabled BT to include activating Voice Dialing directly through the Motorola headset.

I am actually starting to miss my V710! At least it was kinda functional!

Well I picked one up on Sunday.

I had problems doing the bluetooth pairing with my old t68 phone. Once I actual had i prompt me for a PIN but it did not complete the pairing. From then on it never even saw the other phone.

It worked with my bluetooth headset fine though. So I though it was just a little quirk.

When I made some calls without the headset things would just cut out, but when I used the headset it was fine, so it wasn't the service that was bad. Something was wrong with the built in speaker/mic.

So I returned the phone and got a new one. I checked that it worked ok in the store and was able to pair with my headset again OK.

I got home and tried to take a picture and got the same scrambled problem at the high resolution.

So I will return this one tomorrow and hope the 3rd time is a charm.

With all the features of the phone I am not sure what my checklist should be before I even start to leave the store.
Make a call.
Take a picture.
win a game of solitaire?
????

I don't have a miniSD card to try yet.
I don't have the 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapater to try mp3's.

And one more thing that really pissed me off.

The right side letters on the 3,6,9 keys do not get lite up by key backlights.

Checking the pics of a couple of review it seems they have the same thing. And the 2 phones I have had so far also are the same.

So I hope I learn them before I am stuck in the dark.

Well I am on my 3rd 220.

Here is what I have learned:

- If you take a photo on 1280 x960 resolution with BT turned on, the camera scrambles the photo. Turn off BT and the photos are fine. So either use the 640X480 resolution (or lower) with BT on or turn off BT.

- I like the phone. The WM2003 works great, the build quality is excellent and it does 99% of what I want it to do. If Motorola or MS can update the BT stack to enable Voice Dial launching through the BT headset and increase the volume on this beauty all will be right in my mobile world.

- I have notified Motorola of the BT/Headset/Camera issues and they say they are looking into it.

We will see.....................

Thanks for the BT pointer, the camera does work at the highest res with BT turned off.
So I guess it a software/firmware bug that isn't
a problem with the phone itself.

So you saved me a trip to the store, and I will stick with my 2nd phone

Hey, glad to help out!

I hate standing in line myself.

I think overall the MPx220 is a good phone with some minor bugs that will be corrected over time. The nice thing is that WM is upgradable so hopefully the 2004 version will sort out the BT issues. I also have to keep telling myself that BT is a new technology and we are the first end users of these new consumer products.

Motorola, get your BT headset to work directly with Voice Dial like on the V710 and I will happy :D
