Motorola i710 ringtone disappointment

It dosn't come with many, most are offensive to my ears. The downloadable selection isn't as good as the selections of other people I know. (example being the severe lack of video game themes) :(

And it dosn't seem to have a composer or any way for me to get a composer......

Does anyone know of any way to get a composer on this particular phone? It's going to drive me nuts, my out of date nokia from 6 years ago (that I had up until I recently got this phone) had better tones than this thing.... :(

I've been searching the net like crazy trying to find some MP3 ringtones for my new V710, but apparently there aren't any. Is it not MP3 capable??

My Motorola V400 had great ringtones, so I expected this more expensive model to have them as well.

If anybody has any helpful information I would appreciate it.

You want MP3 ringtones? Do this. Visit http://www.walmart.com. Click on the music tab. Search for your favorite artist. Each song is already formatted and fitted for 30 seconds. Simply save to your desktop and transfer via transflash card....or email them via YOURNUMBER@vzwpix.com

I finally tried this today. I saved the music file to my desktop then emailed it to my cell number @vzwpix.com like you said. I received the file on my phone but don't know what to do next. I tried to save the file on my phone and it said "file type not recognized".

Any suggestions?

I tried that Walmart idea, and it was crap. If you email it to your phone, it converts it from an MP3 files to some QCP file and doesn't allow you to set it as a ring tone. If you save them on a memory card then put the memory card on your computer, and go to the 3rd option down called "Set as ringtone", that option is not there. It looks to me like they purposely made it where you can not set a song as a ringtone off of a memory card, it must be saved to the phone directly. (i tried copying it to the phone, but you can not, the "copy" option is also gone when you are looking at the memory card). I believe that Verizon purposely did it so that you have to pay them for ringtones, which is pretty gay, b/c their sales people tell you that you can put your own mp3s on your phone (mp3 player) and use any of them as ringtones (not true). So unless Verizon comes up with a Firmware update for your phone to allow you to copy stuff to the phones internal memory from the Card, or when you email something, stop automatically converting it to a QCP file, then I think you are stuck paying for ringtones.

The person who wrote that idea for Walmart.com and saving it, must be a Verizon employee lying to increase v710 sales.

i got a Verizon engineer on the phone. As it turns out, the software version that you are running on your phone plays a big deal if you can do this or not. When you buy the phone stock, you can use these features because you will be running version 1.37 or something. But as soon as you dial that #022 or whatever it is to update your phone, it will download a new S/W Version to your phone. The current one is 8700_01.40.0R. This version they turned that featue off (which is BULL). On this version if you have an MP3 that you put on your phone, if you go to details and you will notice that the "Apply as Ringtone" option is no gone. I guess Verizon wants to force you to pay for it. Which i feel jipped because I was sold a phone by the salemen that allows you to use Customizable ringtones, then the salesmen updated my phone before he gave it to me, thus disabbling the features. I'm going to return it and get another one and just never update it. If you need to check which version you are running, go to MENU --> Phone Info --> Other Information --> S/W Version. This will tell you. If you are like me and have 1.40 or above, you are screwed.
