I think you can try the d807 driver. In the worst case you will have to deinstall the not working drivers...

I think that PC Studio is made not just for D807, but for the majority of Samsungs GSM phones.

Do you have Alltel? I want to be able to get pics off of my phone and I'm wondering if it's worth it to even buy a cable. I'm hoping that somebody smarter than me will eventually be able to crack this phone. It really is a decent phone but it has no data transfer functionality whatsoever outside of Alltel's Axxess services. It originally had data transfer functionality built in (it even has bluetooth) but Alltel locked out all of the features.

THIS POST = DEAD

Is anyone out there trying to figure this out? I know I am.

I've been trying to figure this out too.

So far I've installed the drivers from here http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/Samsung_SCH-A970

and was able to view the phones file system in bitpim on both my mac and pc, but I ran into the locked by service provider message same as others. I havn't seen anybody post whether they were able to get alltel to unlock the phone or not.

Here's the other forum I've found useful.

Well at least there is a hint of progress going on. I hope the Drinking Tiger guy from the above post gets us an answer from Alltel.

I have the data cable and I also ran bitpim. I still couldn't get into anything on the u420. I'm still holding out out that someone is able to provide a way to access various areas and features in this phone.

Regardless of whether your phone is locked, you should still be able to connect to it using BitPim. Because BitPim doesn't recognize the phone, it will only let you access its file system. From there, you should be able to access all but the 'brew' directory, but unfortunately that is where the good stuff is. I say this, because if BitPim can't find your phone at all when it is plugged in, it is a problem with the driver, not the phone.

I bought a cable with drivers referenced on paperwork from ebay. The seller has provided me with various links which I will post below. I have spoken with alltel about the fact that neither they nor samsung nor alltel's authorized accessory store market a cable with software called a data pack that they DO market for most of their other phones. Alltel flat out told me that this phone is not enabled to do PC connect in spite of the fact that the settings are found inside the phone's software. They are saying don't bother trying. Here is some info I was given by the seller who claims it should work.
Please try the Samsung CDMA Driver and T629 software:
Driver:
http://www.portwireless.com/downloads/samsung/
Software:
http://www.samsung.com/support/productsupport/download/
Model_Select.aspx?type=Mobile+Phone&typecode=18&subtype=
Mobile+Phone&cmssubtypecode=1805&model=SGH%2DT629&filetype=UM
Originally they referred me to this page with the shipment of the cable:
www.mobilesandpdas.com/downloads
I have put a lot of time into this issue with no resolution. I am beginning to believe what Alltel is telling me. I would like to talk with Samsung about it. Hope this helps someone but also hope it doesn't send anyone down a very dark road. Just cause the cable fits, don't mean the drivers or software work. Good Luck.

USB access works fine for me. The driver that I use is from http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/SW/200508/20050804143823625_CDMA_Driver.exe (which was linked to previously). Besides not allowing access to certain directories, it works sufficient well for me.

You linked to Samsung PC Studio, did that actually work for you? I don't believe it supports the U420 or CDMA phones in general, as has already been discussed, which is why I would highly recommend BitPim.

To reiterate yet another point that has already been made, I would suggest you take a look at http://cellphoneforums.net/samsung/t232163-samsung-u420-did-i-just-buy-very-sexy-peice-crap.html.

Much appreciate your note about success with Bitpim. Have no issues with driver, phone recognized accurately, used one you listed. Bitpim, tried 9.07 and the new one, only a day old, 9.08. Both identify phone as "other CDma phone" I assume because U420 is not in the list. Could successfully import and export csv files to and from this software. But anytime I went to the get phone data or send data to the phone all the choices are greyed out. Any suggestions ? Sincerely appreciated.

The reason that the options in BitPim are grayed out is because BitPim has no idea how to send/receive ringstones, pics, contacts, etc to your phone, and every model of phone is slightly different. You can, however, access the filesystem directly from BitPim from the left side-menu (make sure the 'View Filesystem' option in the 'View' menu is ticked). From there you can see the folder tree of your phone, but unfortunately, as of current, many of the directories will not allow us to send/retrieve files. Hope that helps.

So, I also am on this quest to find a way to sync my u420 with my PC. Specifically, I want to sync me Outlook with the calendar function in the phone. I haven't purchased a usb chord yet, which compatible model should I purchase?

As for everything else, I take it that Bitpim is our only chance for success?

If anyone has found out how to sync the calendars, please post. BTW, I truly think that a lot of this falls on the shoulders of Alltel...very frustrating.

I wanted to update everyone that I have had some success in uploading ringtones and wallpaper to the phone, as well as downloading camera photos from it.
