Hello, friends!
I have a question for the Sprint Nextel customers.
Can you please tell me, from your personal experience, what are the positive and the negative sites of your carier? Are you satisfied from Sprint Nextel services?
Thanks for your time!

I have been a Sprint customer for about 6 year and I am a satisfied customer. Every carrier have their negative sides.

Yup! The rugged phones are not bad, but it will be better if they offer other models too....

Have had Nextel for 3+ years, before that ATT Wireless for 1 yr (absolutely horrible service with ATT), have T-Mobile for work, wife has Verizon personal and Cingular for work.

Nextel pros:
1) Rugged, useful, no-crap phones at a fair price (I love my i560).
2) Bulletproof PTT.
3) NextMail PTT-to-email (sends an MP3 file of my message to any email address in the world, recipient listens to message through their PC speakers, texts a reply back to my phone; very fast, very efficient, a very useful additonal tool)
4) Good coverage in major populated areas and on main highways.
5) Quite good customer support.
6) Can usually hold calls even at 1 bar of signal, sometimes even with zero bars (unllike Verizon's overly optimistic signal strength indicator which can barely hold calls with two bars showing)
7) No worries about roaming charges/hassles, because Nextel does not roam onto any other carrier's network (for one of the smaller carriers, Nextel has impressive coverage, especially considering Nextel does not roam onto other carriers)
8) Overall, considering you get unlimited PTT with most plans, you can get very good value with Nextel plans, if you choose carefully for your particular situation. If you do a thorough job of comparing plans with Verizon, CIngular and T-Mobile, and you really make sure you are comparing apples-to-apples, only T-Mo beats Nextel in terms of value, and T-Mo's network and capabilities are nothing compared to Nextel's. Watch carefully for the hidden charges, particularly with Verizon & CIngular plans.

Nextel cons:
1) Coverage off the main roads and in rural areas is not too good (although I have been pleasantly surprised that Nextel has had coverage in a few areas where their map shows they don't; in general the original Nextel coverage maps were quite accurate and not overly optimistic like Verizon's maps)
2) Since being bought by Sprint and simultaneously working on the public safety bandwidth re-banding project, Nextel's service has suffered noticeably, in particular iln southern CA.
3) Motorola phones are good, solid phones, but they are NOT battery efficient like the Japanese phone brands usually are; buy a spare battery and a desktop charger that can charge the phone and the extra battery simmultaneously, so youleave the house in the morning with two batteries. Or, depending on Nextel phone model, you can buy an optional extended battery door and a larger battery.

It really depends on what your needs are, and what areas you'll be using your cell-phone. All the carriers have pros and cons; personaly I like Nextel's bulletproof, no-nonsense, get-it-done style, but that's just me.

Here's a link to a fairly accurate article on Nextel's recent issues:

DONT EVEN CONSIDER SPRINT!!!
Worst customer service ever and the phone bill is a mess.
Hidden charges everywhere.
Everytime you do something they renew your plan for another 2 yrs.
And sprint just terminated 1000 customers...its on the news.

They termed customers due to constant calling in, credit fishing and harassing. Sprint deemed these customers unservicable in thier letters and gave them 30 days to locate another carrier. They weren't even charging ETFs

I have had sprint for about 5 years and plan on stayin with them for many years to come. for me, they usually have some of the more feature filled phones with more to do on them than other carriers having to catch up later. Their coverage area isn't the greatest, but it works for me in my area. Any time I have had an issue, they have always been more than helpful to me. Thats not to say I haven't had my run-ins with them, but those were with the store here in my area and not the company themselves.
