I tried voice dialing and when i was saying digits the phone did not recognize them at all.. can I do anything about it. is this function working at all?

try to train it by "adopt voice"

yes, try the Adapt Digits thing... go to Settings-> Digit Dialing -> Adapt Digits
should work.
