You can use 1GB card with the phone !
Who is the manufacturer of the MMC card ?
You should be able to use 245MB of memory at 256 MB one

I'm happily running a 256MB MMC card in my 6230.

Your best bet is to:
1) Check that there isn't data already on there (which is why it's showing 173mb free, as opposed to 173mb in size?)
2) Format the card on the phone - if this doesn't work, it means that your phone cannot format the card to 256mb, and therefore you need to format the card via your PC. The 6230 should then be able to read the card and its data, at least.
3) Update the firmware. I'm on v3.15, which came with the phone, and the sizes etc. are reported correctly.

Hey, what a hell u talking about there??? NORMALY that the phone tells you that u DONT have 256 Mb . Think a little bit !!! Any memory stick , even your harddisk USE a bit of your full memory. 'couse he hide some files that recognise your memory . This is kind of dudes question. You should had known this !!! And everybody should. But after what i saw ... i quess nobody knows that. My harddisk have 80 Gb but have a free space (when is empty) .. to 76 Gb . !!! .

I bought a 512 MB MMC memory card from CellUp.com (http://www.cellup.com/None-phone-mmc-cellular-accessory-Search-part-SDIO-512MB.html) with only $29.99 and it worked great.

I have been using a 1GB Kingston MMC card for over a year. Have almost 300 MP3 songs on my card. Some kind of problem developed when I had about 171 songs (approximately) in the folder. It would not recognize any of the other songs I downloaded. Ended up adding another folder so I now have about 150 songs in each folder.....put it on speaker phone and it is solid.
