A few days ago I and a friend of mine switched to a a FamilyTalk plan and ever since every time me or her call people with Caller ID on landlines, my name is displayed, which is the billing name. I called several Cingular CSs and got different answers. One of them suggested changing the name on the second line, but it didn’t work. Then there was a suggestion to block or restrict the caller ID?! Any suggestions?

It’s like this with Family Plan, only the billing name is displayed. Unfortunately, you can’t add a different name to each line, according to their rules. Actually the only thing you could do is block the caller ID on the additional lines
Well the downside of blocking caller id on the other line is if calling a land phone with blocked caller id rejection, then your call will not go thro'. The only solution is, the carrier should be able to give you an option to elect what you want to be displayed on any caller id when using your phone. At time carriers aren't willing to take the next step to make us customers happy which really sucks to me.

the feature you are talking about is called CNAM...it is loaded by phone number and yes you can have a different name loaded per phone number... you do need to call and request it...it will by default display the acct holders name if and end user has not been specified...
it is a relatively new feature...not all reps have been trained for the provisioning of that feature yet...
