My son fell in love with my phone and I’m quite willing to switch my phone with his. Mine, however, is on lockline insurance and I’m wondering if my son takes it will it still be insured? We have family plan, by the way. Thanks for the help in advance!

Well the insurance covers the phone not the phone number, although they are connected in a way. But if your son loses the phone it must be you to call them and report it. Another downside is that they can assume that your SIM card is in it and disconnect it. It might be better to call and inform them and even switch the numbers together with the phones.

this is really shitty when you know how many you have payed on that 'insurance' ....

is it same with other carriers? let say verizon?

its the other way around... the insurance covers the the device of record attached to that service (phone number)

so if you got the freebie phone... then upgraded and the upgraded phone wasnt updated in the system and you place a claim thru the insurance... you get the device of record...(the freebie phone) unless you can prove to the insurance company that you bought a new phone

Elmo is definitely correct on this one. This was a question that was asked in the Cingular store, while we were in there finally getting insurance on out phones. We had to wait till the price went down on it. That's crazy. They sell you a phone; but tell you they can't insure it, because it's too expensive. Go figure. So if there is anyone that has a SEW600i; they can now get it insured.:cool: Just thought I'd pass that info on.

the insurance insures the device of record for a cel phone number...

Cingular offers GSM technology, any Cingular SIM can be put in any Cingular phone, this is what makes it confusing. You can switch your SIM cards around to your hearts content, and Lockline Equipment Insurance does insure the phone of record for the particular number.

Common scenario; You have a cheap little Nokia 6030 when you buy service, and they record this as the phone being used for your number. You want something a little nicer, so you go out to e-bay, and buy a razr, you don't call Cingular and tell them the IMEI (this is the electronic serial #) of your new and fancy phone. Couple weeks later, you are using the commode, and when you take your pants down, your pretty razr phon falls out of your pocket, and into the toilet.

But you don't panic, absolutely certain Lockline Insurance will save you from your predicament, and send you a beautiful, and much drier razr. So you call Lockline, place your insurance claim, pay your $50 deductible, and wait for your shiny new...Nokia 6030.

There is no razr if it is never recorded on you account..

The simple answer to switch your phones around on your account is to call Cingular ALWAYS when you get a new phone.

To answer the question of what to do about the son who wants to use moms new and nice phone is to insure both lines on the account (you should always insure even the cheapest crappiest phone), and if something happens to the phone, report the loss on the line where that is the phone of record.

the device of record on said phone number is insured... when you transfer the device to your sons number and you activate another phone on your number... what ever phone you activate on your number is insured

sorta like your car... when you sell it the insurance does not trasnsfer to the new owner
