I activated my PYG a couple of days ago and since then I’ve sent at least a dozen of Text messages. I’m not charged for any of it, so I’m wondering if they are free on prepaid or if there is a free sms period?

You should be charged as there’s nothing like free messages or free period. Keep checking your balance.

Definitely not free. .10 cents to send, .10 to recieve (unless it says Cingular free text message) taken right off the top of your card balance.

Who still has Tracfone?

There is no such thing as something for nothing, silly...
They are .10 each way, but the unbilled details (those calls they show you charged for when you go online) run 24 to 48 hrs behind, especially if your phone read another carriers tower, so just because you have not seen it bill yet does not mean it will not, you WILL be charged .10 per mssg...

Prepaid customers do not recieve a bill the money is deducted off the balance on your account although the old AT&T phones do allow text messages sometimes after the balance on the account is gone but only for a short period and you don't get charged. Also AT&T incoming text messages were always free unless you signed up for joke of the day, horoscope, ect then those had an additional fee.
