I dropped my Samsung a650 into a puddle of water. i tried to dry it. removed the battrery, left it open, even used a hairdrier, but nothing helped. the problem is that it is not insured nad I still have 15months to go before the end of the contract. I'm wondering how to get a new phone. Somebody told me that VZW does $50 refurbs of your current phone. Any suggestions?

Verizon will NOT replace a water damaged phone for any price. Your options are

1. insurance if you have it
2. buy a new phone at full retail price from the store
3. some stores have a lost/dameged phone you can buy for $90 it is a LG3100
4. E-Bay
5. see if friends and/or family have an old phone that they don't use and its GPS compliant

Thats about it.

my son dropped mine in a glass of water and I pulled it out right away. Needless to say, it still did get soaked. However, after letting the phone sit and dry itself for 2 days and removing the battery, the phone still worked. I was so surprise that it worked. The only problem was the send button doesn't work but I can still dial ( make calls) by using the numbers assigned for the quick dial and holding down the last number. Or I just dial the number I want to call and hold down on the last digit and the number is dialed.

Hope this help!

Actually there is a one year contract price for a phone through customer service. Just referense with the rep the "One Year Lost/Damaged/Stolen" replacement option. You would be able to get any phone at a one year contract price, but it extends your contract by one year.

I recently dropped my enV in the pool and it was competely destroyed becase of water damage...or so i thought. So then my son sugest that we wrap it in a towl and put it in the dryer for 10 minutes. so we wrapped it in about 2 towels and tried it on light dry( therefore it didnt bounce a bunch) and omg it was like magic... it worked. so you cantry that if you want

Your Wrong. Verizon has changed it's ways and went down the path of Customer Service over corporate policy. Stores now can mimik the insurance and charge what is called a FRU FEE for a replacement which comes to $50. They can do this as long as the device is not lost. Also the LG3100 was an old replacement phone from about 1.5 years ago. The Frukit as they are called as been updated to a more recent phone. You hardly see that done though now adays. Also damaged or lost phones, no matter where they are in the contract can do the 1 year pricing on a new phone. Since you have over a year in your contract anyway, you wont see an extention.

Both of these are cheaper more practical options than what was provided unless you know someone with a fairly recent VZW phone they are not using (we are talking about 2-2.5 years or even a bit more in age to recent should work with the E911 GPS).

Lost/Stolen Program like somebody suggested. Go in2 a store, depending on the manager/reps and how badly damaged the phone is sometimes they waive the $50 FRU FEE for the phone and just charge U 4 a batt or an acc bundle or some s***. Insurance phones blow any ways, peices of s***...not like Verizon phones in general are much better!

Oh yeah and sometimes they can take several weeks 2 dry...never heard of the dryer thing but it sounds..interesting.

I once met someone that actually put their water damaged phone in their oven for an hour set at 80-95 degrees. They said it actually dried it out. I wouldn't try it myself but on paper it makes sense.

Ok i know it may sound crazy but the way to fix a phone that has fallen in water is to take the battery out but leave the rest of the phone in the water until you have time to fix the problem. you leave it in the water because the rust process starts right when o2 hits the metal. you then will take your phone apart and dry it that way. i say my manager at radioshack fix a phone like so and it worked. i don't remember what he used to clean it, it was in some kind of spray can. but hope this helps for future

Our frufee is what is charged on a phone which has slight physical damage (i.e. cracked display, broken charge port, etc...). We still do not replace a water damaged phone in store. You must have insurance on the phone for replacement

give it to a chemist with a vacuum oven! I soaked my mp3 player in ethanol to wash the jalapeno pepper juice out (whoops) and put it in at 80 deg C with the vacuum on overnight. It worked a treat!

Did anyone notice that she said she had a Samsung a650??? That phone has been discontinued for over 2 years! What I think happened was that it was Customer Provided Equipment and started the service with old equipment. Of course they weren't going to be able to put insurance on a used phone. No matter what, the best options are drying the phone out first, see if a friend or family member has a used verizon phone to put on the line of service, 1 year lost/stolen/damaged policy, or worse case, full retail. $50 FRU fee is against Verizon policy since it's outside of the obvious 1 year manufacturer warrenty and it has been water damaged. I would try the options above since craigslist and ebay CAN BE shady. You just have to make sure it's not blacklisted (reported lost/stolen) or broken. Hopefully this helps! Good luck!

but no insurance on ute phone am I able to just buy insurance and then replace it a few days later? Otherwise I might be able to get a new phone next month. Which right now looks more towards the titanium voyager or the Samsung sway.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

(I have a black enV2 win the inside screen broken btw)

Sure if you want to commit insurance fraud.

Buy the insurance, wait a few days and them make a fraudulent claim.
What a wonderful world we live in.

If a rep only charges you a frufee and replaces the phone then that is an exception that is made by the manager. We dont replace any physically damaged phones that dont have insurance under a frufee. This includes moisture damage. Even if you have insurance we dont replace the phones in store. The customer has to contact Asurion.
