new phone trouble

Probably the questions I'm going to ask will seem too basic, but I really need help. I've just bought a V540. Followed the instruction, i.e charged it up completely - turn it on and it shows the phone #. Then it shows "Searching for network", then "Registering...". Then "Unregistered SIM Card". What am I supposed to do? Also I close the lid, it says "No Service"? lease, help!

hm, if it's a new sim it must be activated first. call the customer care. normally it doesn't take too long, just a minute or two
