Yes it will work. The Boost phone would need to be unlocked. Then you would just insert your working sim card. Remember that not all cards are compatible with all phones and not all features assigned to the card will be available on certain phones.
Boost phones do not work any better or worse then Nextel phones.

you can - but it will NOT work :) :D

actually - I am not sure - but you can put Nextel sim in GSM and it will display the carrier name (Nextel) on the display but there will be NO service due to the different standards - GSM and iDEN ! (although they use the same size SIM cards)

nextel's simcard won't work with cingular or t-mobile becuase they use two different type of techonology. nextel and boost uses iden while cingular and t-mobile use GSM

now you can use cingular's or t-mobile's simcard to each other phone as long as the phone is unlocked

nextel and boost samething...

You can pretty much use the phone's features but anything related to web browsing, you can't use it!

for example if u have t-mobile sim card and have cingular phone, you won't be able to use all the features found on cingular phone such as web-browsing, instant messages, etc.

beacuse cingular phone directly connects to cingular site, regardless of simcard you have it in.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it does work, not all services will work, ie. mms, sms, dc/cg. When it doesn't work, you'll put your Boost sim back in your Boost phone and half of the time you'll be locked out of it. Trust me. When it happens, I'm the one you'll be calling for help when you dial 611 and I'll have to transfer you to Equipment Research to fix your phone. It's not fun.

Many people "know somebody" who has a special code to make this work. I cannot say if this is true or not, but it is illegal pursuant to FCC laws. When a system auditor catches your Boost IMEI running through Nextel's system, they will make sure that that sim is permenantly canceled and lock out that IMEI. Your phone and chip will be forever useless. If you have a problem with that, I guarantee you that the auditors keep impecable records when taking such actions, and a challenge will only get you fined by the FCC. The ID numbers don't lie.

The same is true for using your Boost sim in a Nextel phone. And when you call Boost because something went wrong and your payment didn't go through, or you were charged for a download that you didn't receive, or you need to troubleshoot your phone, the reply you will get is "I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems, but Boost Mobile does not guarantee any services when you are using yor Boost chip in any phone other than a Boost phone. Furthermore, we cannot troubleshoot any phone other than a Boost phone. Is there anything else I can help you with?"

PS: Read the backs of those reboost cards, fer christ sake! When you are at zero ballance, and you add money to your account, it usually takes up to an hour for your account to become fully active. Then you need to power cycle your phone. I guarantee that the "service restricted" message on your chirp will go away!

it's becuase boost phones are locked not like nextel phones you can put your simm in any three digit model it would work the only thing you can do is have the phones unlocked

Bit of a late response, but if you still want to know, no you can't put a sim card into that phone. It runs on EV-DO technology (Verizon, Sprint, Altell) which doesn't follow the sim card trend. Sim cards are standard, in fact, required, on GSM network phones (virtually all other cell carriers). I suggest using one of them. GSM is so much more popular that those three carriers are really the only ones who use it. Also, GSM is internationally recognized which makes travel much easier.

The best way to defeat the subsidy lock is to use RSS Depot with a data cable and simply select "disable" in the subsidy field. Simple as that. Finding the software, on the other hand, is somewhat less simple. Start googling. Once you're unlocked, nextel/telus/boost sims all interchange smoothly, but like a boost tech said a few pages back, if you have a functionality problem, it's YOUR problem. -You have Officially Been Warned- that once you alter your codeplug in any way, you're on your own.

When I was in China, I took my Nextel SIM card and put it in my China Mobile GSM phone and made a call. Later, I had a roaming charge of $3 and a one-minute charge for the local Shanghai phone number ($1.50). Expensive experiment but it worked. Quite a comparison to my 12 cent/minute China Mobile rate.

In conclusion, it looks like Nextel's sim cards (mine is from 2002 and my i95CL phone) are GSM compatible but roaming charges and high minute-rates do result.

If you have an unlocked boost phone an active Nextel sim will work in it...period. However, only all features will be available if you have the Boost phone updated with Nextel software. Look on ebay for the boost phone u want, make sure it is unlocked and configured for Nextel (not just unlocked), and it will work. I did it with no problems whatsoever. THe boost phone I got (i855) seems to have way, way better reception than the Nextel I had (i560).
