Hi all, i have a unlock SE K608i and have the new Cingular 3G SIM card. Went to a cingular corporate store here in Las Vegas and supposedly had my 3 G set up and stuff. Since it was an unlock phone, it was an unknown GSM device, so they had to scan my phone's IMEI bar code on back phone. They told me that they needed to do that so that Cingular will registered it as a 3G phone and send the appropriate signal/info to the phone. If you look here http://cingular.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=press_releases&item=1390 you can see that Cingular already has their 3G network up here in Las Vegas. My concern was that i know that the SE K608i UMTS signal uses 1900MHz and 2100MHz but Cingular only has 1900MHz open up as the 2100MHz is for military use only! Does any body know if i will be able to use 3G and Video calling??

Thanks in Advance !!

2100 mhz is used in japan... cingular is 1900 only for UMTS...that myth about the military was started by people who are guessing

Cingular also uses the 850 band in the US for 3G in addition to 1900.

yes cingular does use both the 850 and 1900 freq bands... but UMTS or 3G service is only avaiable where there is 1900 MHZ service at this time...

if you have a 3g sim and a 3g phone you will have 3g capabilities as long as the phone is in a 3g area...

If you have a 3g phone a 3g sim card and your in a 3g coverage area that dosen't mean anything. For one thing to use cingular's 3g services you have to have a cingular 3g phone as where other 3g phones will not be recognized in cingular's system and you will still only connect at edge speeds and other countries do use the 2100 band for 3g but cingular does not so any non-cingular 3g phone will not get the high speed data like it should... so hers the jist if you want 3g with cingular buy a cingular 3g phone any other phone will not work on the cingular network the way it needs
