Andriod Phone question

I currently have a samsung omnia i910 for verizon and i have been looking at the new andriod phones about to come out for verizon. But also kinda like the new omnia 2. My question is on the omnia I have loaded programs like garmin mobile, Igo8 And other 3rd party apps. My question is using Andriod, can you use/load the same 3rd party apps like you can using windows based phones?
I hope that makes sense. And im sorry it may seem like a stupid question to you guys but i really have no idea lol.
