I'm very new to all of these phone gizmos and all, so bare with me please.
I was talked into joining Facebook by my kids (thank guys)...I've got to say, it's proven to be more useful than I've ever thought. Anyway, I don't spend hours a day on it, but I do like to be able to contact my friends, family, and most importantly, clients on social networking boards (like Facebook, Myspace, Bebo, etc.) I work for a major, American-owned corporation...:)
Anyway, my company recently decided to block all access to these sites (unbelievable, actually). Not that we had a problem, but they said before we do...whatever.
So here's my dilemma. Being able to chat, in real-time, was very beneficial...especially for business tips and such, which I won't go into for privacy reasons. Now that it's disabled, I find myself scrambling for a solution. I guess I could always have them text me on my phone, but that means having to give out my numbers, which I don't want to do.
I'm good friends with the IT Manager at my work. Last night over beers, he told me to look at a service he uses found here:
http://YouTalkinToMe.net/
Now, I'm very skeptical by nature. But after doing some research, I discovered it's all on the "up n up". He said the beauty of the application is that my clients could still contact me by going to my page on Facebook, and I would be able to chat with them about deals without having to even be on my computer. The best thing of all...work could not block it, because it's outside their network (or something like that). For $6, it seems like a Win-Win prospect.
Now, he also said that the service is brand new, and to help spread the word, the company is paying folks sign-up bonus money to help them get the word out. I really don't care about that...not worth my time. But the service I'm very interested in.
I found a few links from a month ago that said it was a scam. But the company said they had a misunderstanding with Paypal and Facebook and everything has been resolved. Again, I'm not the "believing type", but I had some friends in the Technology and Legal department check it out (discretely of course:rolleyes:) and they said everything checks out. It's all legit...
What do you think? I want to trust it and give it a try, but I'm not sure? My clients love the idea because they can do the same as me...give people access to text them without having to give out their personal phone numbers and all...
Is this worth a few months to give it a try???
Thanks folks...I'm new to this, so be gentle...(LOL):):)
