I had N82 for 1 week and N79 almost 3 months (it was recently stolen :_( ), so I'm talking from my own experience. They are very similar.. on hardware specs probably N82 is better because of dual processor and 3D accelerator, but it you don't use anything 3D related then UI is a little bit snappier in N79 (but you really have to pay attention to notice).

Camera I will say are the same, specially if you don't look at 100%. N82 has more powerful xenon flash, but you can't use it for video recording. N79 has dual led flash, which is less powerful for stills but very useful for video recording or as a flashlight. So it's a draw and you should choose by the type of flash you prefer

Web browser is equally inconvenient in both due to low resolution (320x240). I only used it in emergencies and prefer to use any other device with more resolution. A draw here for me and not a strong point with any of them

About speakers I'm not sure, but probably N79 are better..

The black N82 keypad is better than N79 with more tactile feedback and less errors while typing. Also the backlight in the white N79 makes key labels almost invisible in some ambients (it happened to me more often than I expected).

N82 is bulkier.. and it's more noticeable that you will say just by the measures, probably because the N79 has rounded edges and N82 has sharper angles. I use to run with my mobile in the hand ( I use SportsTracker a lot) and with N82 I was always afraid that it will slip out of my hand.

Nokia N79 is colorful and powerful, keep your music close to hand with a 4GB microSD card and 24 hours+ playback. N79 has a weight of 97g, size is 110x49x15 mm while the N82 has 114g, size is 112x50.2x17.3 mm
If you compare the two, for me the better is the N79 =)
