In order to get the phone I want?

It seems like I'll just be paying $20+ a month just to have the "feature" to pay $1.99 per megabyte used on a HTML Browser. I'm on my parents plan and they will not upgrade, even I understand it's ridiculous to do this.

I was planning to get the Dare but now I get this bombshell. I don't know what I want to get now. I'm looking at the flipshot right now, but I'm not sure if they fixed some of the initial problems with it like the slow focus on the camera and the buggy calender.

The Sway has a design flaw without having a rubber grip to pull up the phone, I had been looking at the VX9400 since it looked cool in Ironman, but now it's discontinued. The Nokia 6205 Black Knight Edition seems to have an oddly small screen. Also I was looking at the Decoy but I don't know if the main feature, the bluetooth, really interests me as selling point of the phone.

I don't know what to get now since I was really excited to get a Dare.

Don't buy a Lamborgini just to take it to the supermarket.

Point being, this is a high end consumer phone and part iof how the phone communicates with the network is coded in the nationwide pricing.
Keep in mind that more and more phones in general are requiring data plans these days.

Just sayin'

It is complicated when dealing with all the options. I bet you and your family are on the 'Family Share Plan." I think that that plan has been discontinued. Any changes you make to your service or, even a new phone, will cause you to move to the new plans. ALL phone companies change plans from time to time (ALL of them!) Eventually, you will have to change to a new plan.

I bought my wife a Voyager for her birthday. Guess what! We were on the family share plan. To upgrade, we had to move to the nationwide plan and pay for unlimited texting. For us, it was more economical in the long run, because I now get better service when I travel to areas that use other carriers. (It's complicated.)

Finally, be careful when dealing with non-VZW stores or independent retailers. They are more about making money than long term customer service. VZW has to deal with customer complaints, not those retailers.
