I just got a rant the other day. I am having trouble getting ringtones to download. Sprint works but I refuse to pay 2.50 per a ringtone. I've tried my old method of WAP though freeringers.net it won't work it sends up an error message that i've never had in the past. I've tried zedge as well as though the data cable.

open to any other suggestions

I am not too sure. My wife and I got the phones at the same time, but hers downloaded a software update. Mine did not. Now when I try to change the One Click tiles on mine they won't switch out and hers will. Did you get the software update and does anyone know how to get your phone to update?

I am also having the same problem with getting ringtones on my rant. Under the tools section, there is a an option to update phone (9) but I am not sure whether this will solve your problem.

nothing will work for any downloads from anysite but sprint itself the 3g software in the rant has a block on it so no sites will work at least thats wat tech support says

turn your phone off, pull the batter out. put it back in then try. mine worked after I did that.

No luck also with freeringers.net, and I can't get a .qcp file to play on the Rant via a sandisk. Anyone know what file extension works on this phone?
Thanks!

I think they put a block on this one so we will buy there tones. I've tried several of my trusted sites and nothing will go through. Strange error messages, or just no text received. I really just don't like the music that Sprint has to offer me from there site. I don't see why we should only be able to use there "sponsored musicians." Some people have a broader taste. Bleh!

I just got the rant phone and have the same problem but i got one of the techs to tell me that he had a phone that had the same problem and he found that he could use postringers.com and it tricked the phone some how into thinking it was a sprint ringtone. i have not tried it yet cause it is one of the site you have to pay $10 a month for but you do get unlimited downloads. i would like to know if it works if anyone has or does try the site. thanks and good luck

ok so i found a way to download ringtones without paying you have to make the song short for the ringtone like with the freeringers.com then use the convert to aac on your itunes then you have to use the focus uploader from www.sprintusers.com i know it seems like alot but its really not much more then using the freeringers .com just a few different steps hope this helps!!!!! i know i got my ringtones ;-)

I can play mp3 and mp4 files on my Rant but I haven't figured out how to set them as ringtones. The Rant gives four options to choose when setting up ringers - Ringtones, Melodies, My Stuff (ringtones downloaded from Sprint), and My Videos. Any help?

I work at sprint and I'm having the same problem as everyone else with the ringers and trust me I've brought it to many Superior's attention and so far no luck on a solution but if your phone didn't do an update simply go to your menu button go to tools push 9 or click down till you see update phone then update both Firmware and PRL. Hope it helps

I'm sorry to inform you but you can not set regular music on your phone as a ringer, MOST sprint phones will not allow this to occur. I work for sprint and I have been trying to get some people higher up in the system to figure it out but no such luck...

The way I've done it and have no problems is to use audacity to clip any song I have down to a 30 second wave file. Get it here (free): http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Then I use IMToo video converter to convert the wave file into an m4a format. Using m4a will allow you to use the ringer for ANYTHING on your phone after you have it. Get IMToo here: http://www.imtoo.com/3gp-video-converter.html
(not free) There may be other alternatives to IMToo, use google.

Then I use the sprint focus (http://www.sprintusers.com/focus/) to send the song to my phone by txt. I haven't had any problems with the way this works. I use wav from audacity so the sound isn't garbled up. The ringers sound perfect on my phone. I hope this helps, because I was about to take the phone back because the ringers that come with it are wack.

Alright I just did it as well. All without having to download any programs:

Step
1) Go to http://www.iwfr.net/mp3toringtone/index.php
2) Follow instructions as necessary to successfully convert your mp3 to a ringtone
3) After downloading the shortened version of your mp3 file to your PC/Mac(which is what I used), go to http://www.sprintusers.com/focus/
4) Follow the steps to upload a file and have it texted to your Rant.
5) It automatically saves it to your "My Stuff" file so that you may assign to ANY contact or set as your default ringtone!

i had the same problem getting my carousel to rearange and what i did was enter the browser application. it took me to a screen saying it was the first time it was used and needs to format (something like that) after the format it said there was an update available for this application. it was free, i downloaded it, now carousel works fine. i dont have data plan.

for ring tone i have been messing with converting small mp3 music files to .3g2 files. i save the file to the dcim/100ssmed folder. then when assigning ringtones, i choose "my video" folder option. phone thinks its a video file but plays ringtone just the same. the file has to be less than 512mb though.

Its because you went to the wrong folder. You need to go to the pictures album where the pictures are. The clips will go in there too, then you assign them to whatever.

There is something funny about the Rant. I just tried using this to send all of my mp3 ringers from my old phone (sounds I made / music clips) to my Rant, and some of them don't work even though they have worked on every other Sprint phone I have had.

None of my files exceed the 30 sec / 512Kb limit, so I am wondering if there is a limit on the quality of the mp3 as well.

i have the rant and i have found a way to get ringtones on it for free
if you have itunes you can convert your music on itunes to ringtones and download them onto the rant even if you do not have purchased songs that itunes lets you automatically convert to a ringtone

First, in iTunes you need to go to Prefs (under "edit" next to "file" up at the top left corner), then Import, then change your import settings to mp3 (I used 112kbps, quality is less important than compactness for my ringtones). Then, find the song you want, and go through the song to figure out which part you want to be the ringtone (IE: 00:30.00 to 00:42.00) and then Ctrl-I to get info on the song. Under the Options tab in the Get Info menu, check both start and stop time and enter the start and stop times for the ringtone section (IE: Start time 00:30.00 End Time 00:42.00). You may want to play it once to make sure it's well cropped. Then, just select the song in your library and go to Advanced -> Convert Selection to MP3. It will automatically convert ONLY the portion of the song that you selected to a new, cropped MP3 file, which can then be dragged onto the desktop and used. This is infinitely easier than trying to crop and convert in another application, and now you can have the coolest ringtone on the block in half the time!

you can just go online to sprint.com and login. once you do that, you can get free ringers by typing in promo codes that are on your home screen. it is that simple. i already have 2 and i could get more, but i just dont want anymore. i too am having trouble with my rant. any1s rant not letting them use the internet browser? well, i had to replace my rant to try to get the problem fixed, but my new one is doing the same thing. every time i click on internet and it will freeze! This phone is really ticking me off. then i will turn it off and back on and the internet will work fine for a while, but then it will do the same thing all over again! any suggestions?

They have made it possible!

Go to tools and do a firmware upgrade.

The phone will ask to install and then update.

Then go to myxer.com and upload your songs.

When it texts you click download.

It will say it is not supported.

Click download.

Try different file type.

AAC.

Download.

Smile.

Hey, figured this out with the Rant based on previous post.

Using iTunes, pick which song you want to have as a ring tone. Right click on it, go to "Get Info" then go to the "Options" tab. Pick a start time and end time, about 30 seconds and click ok. Then right click on the song again and click "Create AAC Version". Then go to http://www.sprintusers.com/focus/ and click browse. Find where it saved the AAC version, put in your phone number and a name for the song, then click upload. The site will text you a link to download the ringer, then you can set it up in your phone.

Hope that helps.

I've tried to download ring tone's from http://www.myxer.com/ thy have free ring's their and you can mack your own with your mp3's if you wont. and you can edit it to a down and get the part of the song you wont. and thy send you a text to your phone with a link to down lode the ringer . it all worked fine on my samsung rant .but i do not have a data plane and i only made 10 ringer's for my phone and sprint charged me $75.00 for the data i downloaded the site is free but if you do not have the data plane be careful if you do it is all good work's grate i love the site ----------------------------------------... OK now for all of us that do not have the data plane this well work's for my RANT. you can use the usb cable r mini SD card to download the ringer OK you can use itunes to cut it down to size convert small 30sc mp3 music files to.3g2 files.all you need to do is Chang the song.mp3 to song.3g2 you do not need any program to do it guest Chang the .exe i save the file to the dcim/100ssmed folder. then when assigning ringtones, i choose "my video" folder option. phone thinks its a video file but plays ringtone just the same. the file has to be less than 512mb though.ok hear is a link to a youtube vid for mac but it is the same for the pc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0BBhgcGm... --- this is not my vid but it is ok

Ok, I did all of that, when I goto assign the ringtone it assigns it with no problems, but once someone calls, my custom ringtone gets reset to a preset melody. I can listen to the ringtone I make, it's 30 secs long, when in the File Manager they are around 500kb in size (under the 512kb recommendation), but when I check the file info when I goto select a ringtone it says it's 0kb. I dont know what I'm doing wrong, but has anyone else encountered this problem?

I dont feel like paying for the data plan since the ringtones would be all that I get it for and it's not even that big of a deal, but it'd be nice to get away from the preset sounds for free.

I found the fix for that 950 server error problem. You have to update your firmware. At the main screen, click "Options", then "Main Menu", then scroll down to "Tools". Choose option #9. Update Phone. Then option #1. "Update Firmware".Wen U Do U Will Be Able To Download Tonez

Earlier someone said to update phone by updating Firmware! I am proud to say its works.
1st- Go to Tools
2nd- Update Phone
3rd- Update Firmware
On the other hand, it took me a couple of times to actually complete it....but IT WORKS!

I went str8 to myxertones.com and it ACTUALLY DOWNLOAD A SONG

I strongly believe this might be your best bet....because going through ramkin wasn't successful plus everyone don't have itunes or mp3 players! Too much work involved

Its great that this website gives ppl numerous of options to get ringtones for their Samsung Rant!

I had the exact same problem. I got everything downloaded in 3g2 format. I went and assigned the video(ringtone), and it said that it was assigned and okay. But when i had someone call, it either went back to my old ringtone, or just played nothing when the phone rang.

Somebody help!

I just figured it out. It's not the firmware, Ive already done that. That was the obvious solution that didn't work.

The solution is: you have to make sure that the file name for your video has no spaces in it. Your phone saves videos as spxoo17.3g2 for example so if you must have a similar file name whithout spaces. Name yours spx0018.382 or sweethome.3g2 make sure there are no spaces.

Its really simple to make your own ring tones
1: using windows xp, use the audio recorder locating in the accessories>entertainment folder on the start menu. then play the audio file with a media player, record the section you want with the audio recorder.
2: Save the file to the desktop, it will be a .wav file and you can save it to whatever you want. Next, use Wav to Mp3 encoder (i found it on download.com, very simple program). Add the file and encode it. I use 96 kps. Make sure the resulting file is below 512kb.
3: Change the extension from .mp3 to .3g2, the extension can be changed by using a program callled extchanger.
4: Connect you phone to you computer and paste to the DCIM>100SSMED FILE
5: Enjoy your custom made ring tone

They have made it possible!

Go to tools and do a firmware upgrade.

The phone will ask to install and then update.

Then go to myxer.com and upload your songs.

When it texts you click download.

It will say it is not supported.

Click download.

Try different file type.

AAC.

Download.

Smile.

When you use these sites, and you talk about Data Plan, is that where you get the vision service? because I don't have the internet or vision service with mine, so is it going to cost me a fortune to do this? will it even work?

and can you just take the MicroSD card and put it into the adapter and just copy n paste and then go through and try and save this to the proper place? without having to plug the USB cable in?

Hi, im the one who entered the post you quoted. you cannot use that website if you do not have a data plan. you will have to convert your ringtones from mp3 format to 3g2 format. use the link to "instructables" posted somewhere in this thread, and it will tell you exactly how to do this. you can load it up to your card directly from your computer, no need for the cable. this whole method though is either hit or miss, many people in this thread said it worked for them, but no matter what i tried, it would soft restart my phone. i guess its worth a try.

also, a couple posts up, someone said sprint/samsung fixed it with the firmware update, you can try that too, i havent. not sure if you need a data plan to update the firmware from the phone.

So then is there anyway to do this?
Does that whole spaces thing actually work..and is there anyway to save sounds as something for texts? because thats ultimately what i'm after and ringtones. I went through and connected it, and i was able to save a few, but once someone called me, it would go back to its default. If I go under contacts, and change the ringer there, it only lets me change it to that and it works, but i just want one standard ringtone. how do you do it?

i've been so frustrated with trying to do this i'm about ready to kill my Rant and my computer.

HELP!
and i need this is in simple terms. i'm 17, and I have no patience for this lol, and my dad has been trying to help and he works with this stuff all day.

so if there is some step by step way to figure this out. it would be SUPER HELPFUL

step 1)

*just a note, i believe if the song is too long it wont work correctly. so you wanna keep the ringtone less than about 30 seconds or so just to be safe.

Step 2)
go to download.com and download "Extension Changer 0.5 build 186"

Step 3)
drag the file you just created in step one onto the extension changer window and change the file to "3g2"

Step 4)
Connect your phone to your computer and drag the file to your phone (i believe you need an SD card for this)

step 5)
under the settings>sounds option on your phone, set the ringtones (either caller id or not) to the new file (you may have to look around for it if you dont know where you saved it)

This also works for setting ringtones for individual people using almost the same method (except you have to go through then persons contact in your phonebook) but will not work for text message ringtones.

hope this helps

I can send an MP4 via bluetooth from my Mac, but my Rant won't let me play it. So I have two questions. In your process above, what folder do you put it in so that you can use the file as a ringtone? And should I use something other than my Mac to convert the file to an MP4?

Thx - Kat

Alright I just did it as well. All without having to download any programs:

Step
1) Go to http://www.iwfr.net/mp3toringtone/index.php
2) Follow instructions as necessary to successfully convert your mp3 to a ringtone
3) After downloading the shortened version of your mp3 file to your PC/Mac(which is what I used), go to http://www.sprintusers.com/focus/
4) Follow the steps to upload a file and have it texted to your Rant.
5) It automatically saves it to your "My Stuff" file so that you may assign to ANY contact or set as your default ringtone!

It works like a charm. I've tested using my data plan, and it works great... didn't try dowloading it from the computer or SD card though.

YOu are only supposed to charge your battery when it is extremely low, and most phones need 3 hours charge time or less, anything more than that, like leaving it plugged in all night, is what fries your battery and why you have no talk time

Can anyone suggest a way to get ringtones on my rant without having internet browser?

I have tried hooking the phone up to the computer and using the SD Card to transfer files, but i cant do anything with them. I got the file converter and converted the .mp3s to .3g2s and put them in the DCIM > 100 SS MED file and setting the ringtone to a contact that way and it says it works but i tested it and it doesnt play anything at all, just silence when i called it from the test number. I have tried numerous times to update the PRL and Firmware but nothing happens, do I have to have internet for this to happen?

All you have to do is make sure the filename looks like this:

SSPX****.3g2

The stars stand for whatever numbers you want them to be. This will trick the phone into thinking it's actually one of it's own video ringers. Hope I helped! :)

I just got a rant and I worked past all of the music setbacks Sprint has on me. If I want a certain song I make it.
All you need to do is download the song/file you want, download audacity(http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) and then make your song. You can only put this on your memory card though through your USB cable.
If you want to set it as a ringer and get it on your PHONE'S memory and not your memory card, or both, that can be easily done as well.

Just go to the website called (http://www.myxertones.com/) where they offer FREE ringtones. If you make a FREE account, you can even upload your own music files, make them a ringtone, and send it to your phone to have it downloaded and stored so you can use it as a ringer.

Very simple to do. It takes some effort compared to when I used to be on AT&T and I could just set stuff on my memory card as ringtones, but since Sprint has to suck major balls I found a way around it =D

Bleh!

... i have thumbplay... and i was able to download my ringtones to my new rant.....i did get an error message on a few when i asked the tech support from thumbplay about this they told me that the ringtone is too big for the phone.... but i have been able to download from my locker on thumbplay and using the new credits that i had about 37 songs .... so maybe check out thumbplay.. u get 10 bonus credits when u sign up ... its $9.99 month for 10 credits each month and they bill you on your sprint bill...the songs use to be 1 credit each but i just noticed now its 2 credits.. still little cheaper then sprint ... graphics are 1 credit each.. i do know from thumbplay telling me that sprint will not allow us to download thier mp3's... just thought maybe you could use this info

What you need to do is go to http://www.xilisoft.com/3gp-video-converter.html and download the converter. The use itunes and get the part of the song you want and create mp3 version. You will not be able to use itune music purchased from the itune music store=(. Take the mp3 version and drag it into the xilisoft program. Then at the bottom under profile make sure its says to convert it to .3g2. After you have done that hit encode. It will ask you to register, so just X it out. Another message will pop up and ok that. After you have done that drag it to your phone DCIM and then under 100ssmed. After that disconnect you phone and go to settings, sounds, ringer type, incoming calls. When it asks you what type go My Videos and find the one you like.

Note: You may need an update on your phone to make it stay as default ringer.

Can someone show me a way without internet

i just got my rant today and here's what i did:

Open mp3 you want in Audacity (audacity.sourceforge.net) and edit to 30 seconds.
Upload them to ventones (http://www.ventones.com/make-free-ringtone.aspx)
- put in a name for the ringtone
-make sure you click the link halfway down the page for SPRINT USERS
-click link that says to click and wait 5-10 seconds for video to be made
-right click link and Save As
Connect phone to PC
Copy file from PC to *phone* folder of DCIM->100xxx
Disconnect phone and then choose contact for the ringtone and change ringtone for that contact by locating file in My Videos

Here's the thing- I originally just converted the edited mp3 file to a 3g2 file using SUPER. However, everytime I copied them to my phone and added it to a contact, the ringtone would reset to the default. I'm sure it's something about the video/audio settings in the video that has to be used for a ringtone, but since I don't know what spec it wants and ventones does, this works fine. i find the only major drawback is the every time anyone calls with a ringtone i've made, it's got a stupid photo of a baby in a tuxedo.

If anyone knows what the video/audio specs need to be for this no-internet method, please let me know so I can get rid of that baby!

Hope this helps.

Can someone show me a way without internet

When you said "without internet", i assumed you meant without internet *on your phone*.
You gotta have internet on a computer for what i wrote- but you don't need internet on your phone.

Sorry...

Well I've had the Rant since it came out.. So for a couple of months... I was able to download quite a bit of ringtones from Phonezoo successfully... But for some reason Just randomly I decided I wanted the Might Morphin Power Rangers as a ringtone (I'm a nerd <3) it sends Via Text and I connect, and when I accept the unconfirmed download option It goes to the downloading screen and will stay at 0% then after about 30-45 seconds it'll say Now connected to Sprint network (Like if I just turned one the phone, or If I was previously roaming (WHICH HAPPENS ALL THE TIME Sprint = fail in my opinion) and now am not)

So if you could read that and not go insane... Please help Sprint doesn't deserve my 2.50$ unless they're going to improve their signal, and not try to rip my brother off more -_-

`GOOD DAY

go to funformbobile.com, create an account for free, and search for ringtones, and they will send you a text with a web link. go to the weblink on your phone, select download and it works everytime. i even create my own with the program you can dowload from funformobile.com and use any audio file, and upload them toi the site and send to yourself, works great everytime goodluck

So, the deal is...you have to pay no matter what to get a ringtone on your phone?

Is there any possible way to just get it on your phone or memory card through the USB or something. I don't have iTunes...

It is so easy and simple! All you need is a USB cable and a little experience...but barely anything. Plug the Rant to your computer, choose your already made custom ringtone and drag it to the DCIM\100SSMED folder and change the name!

(1) the video is saved in the DCIM\100SSMED folder
(2) the video is smaller than 512 MB
(3) the video file name is in the same format as videos recorded directly from the phone (ex. My Rant saves videos in the following format: SSPX0001.3g2)

Someone very early on in this thread suggested myxer.com and it worked for me. You can go in there and get the ringtones that they have or make your own from music you have stored on your computer. It's VERY simple and free. You have to have text messaging on your phone or pay for the texts but it works. It sends the link, you click download and it downloads. Then it gives you options, click the option you want to set it for a ringtone.

I did that and I still can't get it to work. I did this before but now I'm tired of the song so I have tried to make another one and I can't do it again. The phone still says the song/video is 0kb but i made sure it was 512. I NEED HELP! I just can't figure this out.

So I have this phone as well and having problems but if you go to www.funformobile.com on your phone and go to media search on this website and search for tones and what ever song you want and then click it and download it works for me and for my friend who has the same phone. WAP won't work through their site either but doing it the other way does. I have also in the past been able to go to the website on the computer and have it send the file to my phone but that doesn't work with Sprint for some reason.. but ya.. on the phone go to funformobile.com.

good luck guys..

you can just go online to sprint.com and login. once you do that, you can get free ringers by typing in promo codes that are on your home screen. it is that simple. i already have 2 and i could get more, but i just dont want anymore. i too am having trouble with my rant. any1s rant not letting them use the internet browser? well, i had to replace my rant to try to get the problem fixed, but my new one is doing the same thing. every time i click on internet and it will freeze! This phone is really ticking me off. then i will turn it off and back on and the internet will work fine for a while, but then it will do the same thing all over again! any suggestions?

have you downloaded songs from myxertones, if you do that will cause your phone to slow down, I had the same thing happen to me and all you have to do is reset your phone, it deletes all your contacts and music but it's better than having a phone that freezes.

hope I helped

I'm sorry to inform you but you can not set regular music on your phone as a ringer, MOST sprint phones will not allow this to occur. I work for sprint and I have been trying to get some people higher up in the system to figure it out but no such luck...

with the blackberry curve you can, but my bf has the rant and it is so dumb that you can not set music as a ringer as well for this phine. :(

You must have someone with a rumor, to send the ringtones they downloaded, just have them forward the ringtone to your cell phone

Unregistered
04-17-2009, 10:35 PM
you need to make the ringtone into a 3g2 format (google search WinFF for a program to convert to 3g2) and then hook up your phone to the computer open up the drive then open up the folder DCIM and drag into 100SSMED

Note: it wont work for text messages only for calls because you set it as a video ringer.

Take any mp3 and covert it to a 3g2 video file to custom make any ringtone.
Great program called SUPER by eRightsoft will convert them. It's free tool..
Suggest you donate to help them develop it better.
I found a ton of ringtones http://www.monstertones.com.
you can listen and check out their examples.
The sample files are mp3s with WindowsMedia player.

I had bought my rant in feb. 2009 and i was able to download ringers 4 free @ ww.phonezoo.com 2 beging with and was using it on my previous phone which was the fusic from lg. When the camera didnt work on my rant towards the end of march and i took my phone to be repaired and they rebooted the phone and they fixed the camera but i lost all my free ring tones from phonezoo.com so i went back to redownload them it wouldnt let me anymore. So i went back and told them about my phone and the manger of the repair shop was basicaly was saying that it was the website and i told him i know my phone and that it was working untill u guys touch my phone. I was so pissed at him telling me i dont know what my phone does when i know how it works. I am leaving sprint and going to another carrier sprint sucks big time!!!

Goto funformobile.com and download until ur content
i have the rant and i have found a way to get ringtones on it for free
if you have itunes you can convert your music on itunes to ringtones and download them onto the rant even if you do not have purchased songs that itunes lets you automatically convert to a ringtone

first, in itunes you need to go to prefs (under "edit" next to "file" up at the top left corner), then import, then change your import settings to mp3 (i used 112kbps, quality is less important than compactness for my ringtones). This is infinitely easier than trying to crop and convert in another application, and now you can have the coolest ringtone on the block in half the time!

turn your phone off, pull the batter out. put it back in then try. mine worked after I did that.

He's an idiot without the phone or didn't read the question. Myself on the other hand...If you want free ringtones on your phone: go buy a new phone. It won't let you. I've tried multiple ways and have had no result. The people who say how to do it are probably working for Sprint or Samsung and don't want people to get discouraged from buying this from those capitalizing bastards

Easiest way to download ringtones for the Rant. Go to Mixxer.com.
Just choose a ringtone that you want to download.Copy the web page URL of that ringtone. Now log into your Sprint PCS account. Under the 'My Sprint' tab you will see a text messaging section in the bottom right hand corner. Paste the URL into the message box and enter the phone number that you want the text message sent to in the 'Recipient Phone Number' box. Once you receive the message you should be able to link in and and download ringtones for free.

i have a rant and the only reason im on this fourm is to find a way to get ringers for text messeges. Okay if you want it for call tones here is what you do
1. make the song at most 30 seconds long no longer than 30 sec( if you need some where to do that i suggest goldwave.com its free)
2. once you pick your 30 sec go to mediaconverter .org and upload the snippet
3. click next and pick the 3g2 output format
4. once finish download it to your computer
5. connect phone to computer and highlight the file you want
6.the right click and pick send to and choose the removable disk( amke sure youre rant is connect)
it worked for me has to work for you
PS make sure there are no space in the file name it wont work

I used Free Ringtone Uploader (online service) to get my songs on it. The first one I uploaded works, I set it to a specific contact. However, the other ones I've uploaded to the phone don't play as ringtones, only in the media player. I'm not sure what I did different when I edited/trimmed the mp3 that plays as a ringtone.

I set my other mp3's to the same bitrate and hz (80kbps 32hz, stereo), but no success. The one that works is even 3 minutes long. The 3g2 method works, but their sound SO bad no matter what you set the bitrates to.

Apparently the way my wav editor encodes things made the mp3's incompatible. I downloaded Aya Mobile Ringtone Maker, uploaded the finished file through Funformobile free ringtone uploader. The ringtone is as crisp as can be expected for such a wimpy speaker and it works as a ringtone, so I'm SUPER happy :D.
