LG8100 and custom ringtones

Hey guys,
I just got the 8100 and a 124MB mini SD card. I was wondering how you can make your own ringtones or save the mp3's as ringtones. On my LG7000, I could do it, but this phone won't allow it. Any ideas?:)

I called Verizon 3 times today and you can't set your own mp3's as ring tones. You can't record a message and use it as a ringtone like the LG8000. They gave me the number for the manufacturer and they said they removed those options at Verizon's request. So I guess that was someone's brain storm to get more money for forcing users to download and pay for their ringtones. Here is LG's toll free number 1-800-793-8896 and here is Verizon's toll free number 1-800-922-0204. I called Verizon back and complained that I would like a software upgrade to allow me to use my own MP3's and to allow me to use my own recorded messages as ring tones again. Maybe if enough customers complain they will do something. So get the word out.

if you are using the vx8100 you can make your own ringtones and use them as your tones on your phone you need to download bitpim, audacity and lame to do it and it`s best to have a minisd card and card reader.

Just download Bitpm from Bitpm.org or "Google It". And you will also need a Data Cable I got mine off ebay for 5.00. My data cable is actually for a VX7000 but It fits the VX8100 perfectly.

I took MP3 ringtones i found on the internet saved them to a folder on my computer and went into bitpm and clicked and dragged into the filesystem tab of bitpm, few more steps are needed in bitpm, and it puts the rintone right to "My ringtones" on your VX8100 and wallah.

read Bitpm's tutorial for detailed info once you get on the Filesysytm tab in bitpm its really easy and you can also ass wallpapers the same way.

Which 8100 are you talking about? Is the LG8100 the same as the VX9100?

i've used phonearena to show you the 8100 and 9100 - they have nothing in common - one is for cdma verizon and the other is for cingular gsm

LG8100- trying to move MP3s to a ringtone. Now I have bitpim & the usb cable & have successfully moved the Mp3s from the computer to the phone via bitpim/windows media player. Now how do I move them into the ringtone menu on the phone? When I look under the filesystem folder in bitpim, it tries to retrieve & ends up with nothing there. What am I doing wrong? I've been searching on these forums for days.

I know this is a bit off topic, but I have discovered you can easily (but not as easily as one would like) put your own MP3 files on the phone and listen to them. And there is a ghost menu that shows they are on the phone (._title) that might be used somehow to transfer to the ringers folder?

I just got off the phone with Verizon and LG's customer service reps. It was one of the most frustraiting experiences with a Verizon Front guy saying put the mp3's in the Music folder on the chip. He didn't know what he was talking about. A second call back and rep was clueless, and just read the manual which says little about using the MiniSD card and playing your MP3 files. Calling customer service for anything really technical is a waste of time. I called LG Cust. Serv too and they just shared that the ._titles are letting you know the file has been xferd to the phone (but is not playable thanks to Verizon's lockout with sys 07 (rather than 04 which allows the player to work). But you CAN PLAY YOUR MP3s relatively easily:

Here is what you do. PRESS THE OK BUTTON
then go Left 2 to TUNES AND TONES, CLICK ONCE on OK, go UP 1 to MY MP3s folder. When you press OK you will see a list of the mp3s you dragged onto the miniSD card after formatting on the Phone. Once formatted, you will see a set of folders, MY MUSIC, MY FLIX, MY PIX AND MY MP3s which is where you dump your music.

You should be looking at a list of your tunes with a dot and line before the title:

._SONG TITLE
._Another Song title, etc.

What you have to do is scroll down the list to the end and low and behold, there THE LIST BEGINS AGAIN and you can select the first song by pressing OK and viola!, you are listening to the stereo speakers on the phone and watching the EQ BARS (nice touch - I'm a sound engineer) bounce to the music. NOW HERE IS THE BEST PART, YOU CAN FLIP THE PHONE CLOSED AND VIEW THE EQ BARS on the FRONT LCD and the buttons will work too~!

press and hold the play button on the outside the phone and bamb. the list and play. And also the flash button on the side will change the equalizer.

Do you have to format those files (mp3s) on the phone? Cause I just put an mp3 in MY MUSIC folder and my phone doesn't even "see" this file.

No first do the steps it's required to change your cell phone to play mp3s. I wrote the steps and made a thread titled, "LG VX8100 to enable MP3s."

Then format your minisd. If you take it out and look it up on your computer through a cable or what ever you use to read your card. I use a mobilemate to read my minisd. Their you will see an extra folder upon opening it, called, "My_MP3." No need to format into wmas or some other, if it's already an mp3.

I've notice that sometimes the card could be dirty. So, I just take it out, blow try to clean it without touching it and placed it back in the cell. Reboot and it should appear.

I have the same one..Very good phone except fpr the ringtone tones...ou cannot save ringtones to your mini sd..Yes I've tried and called on it...just go to vcast and download them that way...
