I have an older phone that I prefer over the slightly newer one I was given. I went to the Verizon Wireless stand in the mall and the guy told me he could do it online (the account owner wasn't present with me). So I check it out and, well, it's a bust. They have the option that I'm looking for but it just sends me to my account overview with the newer phone, with no option to change it unless I'm missing something. How do I go about activating my older phone to use instead?

This thread can be deleted ; I found the problem out. I wasn't reading closely enough but the account holder has access to these options, not me. Thanks anyways

It sounds like you're not logged in under the main account.

Have the account owner log in for you to switch this.
Here are the steps they'll need to follow:

1) Login under the Account Owner page
2) Click the "My Services" tab
3) On the left hand side click "My Phone"
4) on the right hand side click"Activate Phone(Activate a new or existing)"
5) Choose the link on the right that says "Activate Equipment"
6) Choose your number, enter the esn and choose the reason for the change.
7) Submit!

Yes, any change to the account, such as changing the active phone or ESN, must be done either by the account holder or someone that they have authorized to make changes. VZW does this to protect their consumers' accounts.

Just a heads up for future references. When setting up accts with Verizon, make sure you put on auth users on the acct or you will not be given access. Also, our new policy has gone in affect where you need to show photo id, even if you are auth user. Due to protecting customer information. So make sure you bring your id with you to your local Verizon retailer. Thanks for the being the best part of the Verizon Network.
