Ok so anyone with verizon prolly knows a little about the new blackberry thunder phone coming out late august. However, just to verify a little more about it. This phone is going to be an exclusive Verizon Wireless phone. the other networks will not get it. According to Verizon reports the Thunder will actualyl be sold exclusive for 1-2 yrs and if they meet there requirements of sale then it will not be sold on any other network and they will get the next Blackberry touch phone exclusively. Just thought some of you like to hear about this clearification enjoy...

I hadn't heard anything along those lines, the phone is posted so far to work with GSM and CDMA technologies, so that would seem to be a waste of money for RIM. It seems to soon to be designed with GSM to work with future system changes.

Though it would be nice for us to have an exclusive Blackberry device before a GSM carrier, instead of getting a device that they give away for free by the time we're releasing it, because they've had it for so long. The pearl for example.

The GSM counter-part I believe is for Vodafone. I remember reading somewhere that Verizon and Vodafone were partnering for this device on global rollout (?).

Apparently, this phone has a great camera, and is a worldphone. I am very excited however, I wonder if RIM will allow users to view and EDIT docs just like "Documents To Go."

I have used this device, I have been using it actually for almost a week and I am reading and responding to you right now on it. Not to give away too much, I will just say this much. This device, tentatively named the Thunder right now , is the first of its kind in the technology it is using for touchscreen messaging....alot of you are going to wonder what that means....and you can keep wondering ( I will give you one hint...when you push a key, it pushes back like a keyboard does ). The camera is 3.2 with zoom and more options for resolution changes ( I am a big camera gal )... it has support for as large a memory card as you want to put in, no restrictions that I am aware of, it is of course using a true HTML browser with flash art support and it will be able to copy/paste as well from your web browser.

And yes, it is exclusive to Verizon and will be a global device. There is no contingencies for the exclusivity contract, so this one belongs to VZW and Vodafone. Sorry ATT users, you will have to switch to have the best this time.

....as to whether or not I should wait? I currently have a TREO 700W which is on it's last legs. I haven't been all that happy with the phone reception and it freezes on me regularly, but I do like the touch capabilities and the general layout. The problems I have with Blackberry is the wheel in the center (fat fingers!) and I'm unfamiliar with the look and layout. If I HAVE to wait until Nov. or Dec. will I be happy? I know I'm asking an intangible, but do you think it's really a great or just a "so-so" phone?

The new touch Blackberry will be called the Storm. As mentioned, its a quad band world phone for maximum connectivity. It supports VZ Navigator and Visual Voicemail as well as full HTML web browsing and a 3.2 megapixel camera. No pricing or launch date yet unfortunately.

The reason that its GSM and CDMA is because its a global phone. Needs both networks to work outside of the US.
