I recently bought the Dare and I'm wondering if it's possible to connect your dare to your computer and get an internet connection on your laptop. Is this possible? Because I would REALLY like to know it would help a lot. Thanks!

Yes you can use them together.

It would called Tethering, it will cost you $45.00 more to add on to the V-cast package already on the phone, that's if you have that already.

Acutally the tether fee for a standard handset is 59.99 and it is a 5GB limit per month. The charges after 5GB is $.25 per MB. If you are a heavy data user it would not be the best option.

The answer is AWESOME YES, and its REV. A!!

The truth is as the guest said, yes, its 59.99 a month for 5 gigabytes.

But its different than an air card because you are only using a monthly feature that you can take on and off at anytime. Whereas with a "wireless internet card" you have to sign a 1 or a 2 year agreement. I tether with my Flipshot, and its pretty good!! I would LOOOOVE to tether with a dare!!!!

Tethering a phone (using it now) to your PC is awesome. I currently own the Gleam but would love to own the Dare. Connection speed would be so much faster because of Rev. A technology.

Have fun surfing the net.

As VZWTech stated, it is $59.99/month for access for up to 5GB. This will be enough for you as long as you don't stream a lot of movies or games and you can monitor your usage through your computer or online. We are doing a one-month free promotion if you sign up before 7/31/2008.

Teathering will cost you the same as an aircard would per month. Only difference is. that its a feature and doesnt require a contract like a card would. its 44.99 a month for the 5gb email and web feature and then 15.00 a month for the teathering feature = 59.99

I've not tried it on a DARE yet (just got mine) but some phones you can connect to a laptop and use to it dial into a dial-up service like AOL or others. If this is possible then you must watch your phone plan and use this only on nights and weekends. It would eat minutes fast.

just as a add on you can also blue tooth the device to the cpu if you have a blue tooth capable cpu. This would allow you to use bba connect as well but tends to run a little slower.

Downside of the bba connect is that you can not recv txt or calls while connected.

Correct.

The other people who posted must have been confused because the Dare is NOT a PDA/Smartphone.

To add BBAC to any device that is NOT a PDA/Smartphone is $59.99,
regardless of the fact they have vcast or not.

Now if they do have a PDA/Smartphone with the $44.99 unl data feature, it's $15 more to add the BBAC tethering option.
(Keep in mind, this DOES have a limit with the tethering of 5GB still)

Hopefully that clears some confusion

You mean a DARE isn't a smartphone? Dur! If you look, I listed a qualification in my post. "IF this is possible..." meaning that it might or might not work. I have not tried it to know if it can be done or not. There are those who are more geeky than I am who might can. I merely suggested the possibility.

Clarification!!

As most posts have already confirmed, the service is $59.99. Technically, it states a 5GB allowance. However, with this service, there is NO cap. Although is may say so, there is no overage charge on this BroadbandAccess Connect Service. It is still unlimited.

thats incorrect if u go over the 5 GB u will be chrg trust me I know i have the feat and I have an employee acct so you WILL be chrg if you go over...now the way they have it now is that you get to go over up to 250.00 twice and u wont get chrg but that third time you will and depending on what your connecting to it's kind of hard to go over 5 GB in a billing cycle

the both of you need to return to the original POS and talk to the sales rep that sold you the cards. If they quoted you both that then they need to give you a one time credit. I hate to do this to another store front, but ask to speak to the manager if all else fails.

We are trained to sell those cards/BBA connect with 5GB cap in mind. You CAN download music from itunes and what not, but you need to watch the cap. If they quoted you as having unl. access then that is where the fault falls on them. The rep's manager needs to have this brought to their attention so that they can coach their reps once again....sorry that you both have to deal with this......

I didnt bother reading all the arguing above but the best options are either add the $49.99 Tethering option, otherwise I would higly reccomend switching to the Nationwide connect plan which includes unlimited text and web on your phone and then the BBA connect feature to tether is discounted to only $30 and your getting much more bang for your buck.
