OK, so I decided to e-mail support for Verizon inquiring about Windows Mobile 5.0 phones being available by 12/05, and this was their response. Not that I expected a straight answer, but the second the XV-6700 hits shelves, I plan on buying it. Any insider info on the XV-6700(a.k.a. Apache) for Verizon would be greatly appreciated. I loved the "if/when" aspect of their reply.

Response from Verizon:

"Thank you for contacting our Verizon Wireless website. We are eager to assist you with information regarding Windows Mobile 5.0 availability.

We appreciate your interest in the latest technology in wireless data service. Verizon Wireless is constantly improving the services and features that we offer to our customers for their communication needs. Currently, we are unable to provide information regarding if/when Windows Mobile 5.0 will be made available, as this may raise expectations that may not be met.

If you have further questions or concerns, please write to us again through www.VerizonWireless.com. We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing Verizon Wireless."

Well, I assume the Apache will trade for Verizon under the Audiovox XV6700, and the upgrade from the 6600. I'm sure they won't release that phone with Mobile 3.2 OS because that would just be pointless. I seriously hope I'm wrong, and I hope the 6700 hits shelves before Christmas.

As for the 9800, looks pretty much like garbage if you ask me.

Very amusing, only 3 short days from the time Verizon support told my they may not release phones featuring 5.0, the press conference about the Treo 700w(obviously featuring 5.0) hit the news.

Another interesting tidbit is the fact that the PPC-6700 features the following text under the battery:

"PPC-6700/XV6700"

and this text on a tag on the included USB cable:

"PPC-6700/AUD XV6700"

Now I would hope that means this phone will be released by Verizon as the Audiovox/UTStarcom XV6700. Hopefully before Christmas.
