So we have these new guidelines regaurding water damage.
This is what the email I just recieved states:
Corrosion Detection - Formerly LDI
To determine whether any device malfunction resulted from exposure to liquid, follow the guidelines below:
- Is there corrosion or discoloration on the charging, headset or memory ports?
- Is there moisture under the display lens?
- Has the customer verified the device was exposed to significant liquid that resulted in the device failure?
If the answer to any one of these questions is yes, it can be determined that exposure to liquid was the primary reason for the device malfunction.
If the answers to the above questions are all no, the device's warranty is not impacted.
Note: The Liquid Detection Indicator (LDI) decal should not be referenced.

So are they going by this is the stores also now?
Or??
I dunno, I'm just wondering.

Prior to this change, if we saw the LDI's were tripped you'd have to go through insurance or pay at full retail to replace. Now they are used just to give us an indication to look closer for corosion. Typically I'd replace the phone under warranty so long as they purchase a new battery since you could damage the new phone by using the damaged battery. This is a benefit since the insurance deductible is $50 and $39.99 is less and definitely a lot less than full retail.

Interesting.
Haha I begin to wonder, how do you think this will effect future FRU replacements?
Hahaha.
Everytime I think about it I start laughing about again

That is only valid if one or the other is tripped. If the battery indicator is tripped and the phones is not, then its no problem to me. Or vice-versa. But if both are tripped, thats still enough to call it. And thats from the Talking Heads. BUT!! My point to that, which they agreed to, is take care of the frigging customer.

Wet batteries won't fry phones, wet phones fry batteries. Voltage depletion is caused by corrosion discharging the battery causing it to die quickly. The only way the battery could hurt the phone is if it was holding a gun. JK In reality If the battery packs terminals were corroded and you left it to charge in the phone, it could generate great enough amounts of heat to create stress on the cells of the battery pack, or give you instant voltage depression. But these are rare enough, usually the biggest issue for the customer is just bad battery life, regardless, I would still sell them a new battery, keeps them from coming back less happy. And we are all about making the customer happy.
Returns Warehouse still counts Abuse and OOW against the stores.. So I would still pay some attention to LDI's.
But to me, if its just a smudge. I shouldn't have to prove a case to the customer its wet. If its wet, I can see it immediately, if I have to look for 5 minutes to find it, its not wet to me!!!

They started that originally because of the Razrs and moved it to a company wide thing. For the customer that accidently got their phone yet it's awesome if it's followed to the "T" but myself personally I am still going to use common sense. If someone is obviously lying and the color is changed and the phone is doing one of those things that phones only do when they get wet I am not going to blindly swap a phone.
It's a good change though overall.
