Verizon wireless just bought alltel for $27 Million dollars. It looks like our network just got bigger. Probably this deal will end the alltel name, so welcome to Verizon Network.e

To those that don't know how much this affects Verizon Wireless customers let me be the first to say this is HUGE. First of all, Alltel has the largest rural coverage of any carrier. Verizon is awesome coverage in City areas and decent in rural. With the combination of towers, VZW is going to have just rock solid coverage. Also, on a non-important note, VZW will have the most customers. That allows bragging rights but that is about it.

So this means that i should be proud of being on the biggest network :D. GDawgtuk thanks for the info i didn't quite understood what was the point except to get more customers. So now we should have better coverage right ? Is there an updated coverage map already ?

This is good for you, but what will happen to us Alltel clients :(. Will we be forced to switch to a verizon plan or we will be able to keep our current ones. I'm also interested to know if the Alltel brand will be kept under their wing or will be wiped.

Here is the statement we have been instructed to give those inquiring about this:

Verizon Wireless announced an agreement today to acquire Alltel. We expect to close on this purchase by the end of the year, pending governmental and regulatory approval. Until approval is received, Verizon Wireless and Alltel must operate as separate companies. If you are an Alltel customer with questions regarding your account or services, please contact Alltel directly. If you would like additional information about the acquisition, please visit www.verizonwireless.com and search for "Alltel."
